'My wife not after my money' - Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki)

Those who are saying she married me for money will always say that. But let me tell you the truth, whosoever propagates such lies does not accommodate good things. There are wives and there are wives. It is easy to have a girlfriend and enjoy yourself and have fun. But I have found out that when you want to settle down, you must do it with someone that will and must make you happy always. Nneoma makes me happy. She is the woman for me" - Chinedu Ikedieze

How can a gold digger stay with a man for 12 years?

Vanessa has been with Kobe since 1999. They met when she was only 17 and he was 21 and not very successful. She gave him her youth and children, how is she a gold digger? Why do people assume that once a man is rich, that's all a woman wants him for? Women can't genuinely love a rich man? *Yimu* lol. No, but seriously, it's not always the case biko.

Anyway, according to the ex-stepfather of Kobe Bryant's estranged wife, Vanessa, she learned Gold Digging 101 from her mother.
From TMZ:
Kobe Bryant should have known his soon-to-be ex-wife would take him to the cleaners in their divorce ... because she learned the wallet-raiding playbook from her mother ... so says Vanessa's ex-step dad.
TMZ spoke with Stephen Laine -- an inventory manager for a food company who was married to Vanessa's mother from 1990 to 2003 ... and helped raise Vanessa from a child into adulthood. Laine tells us, "Her mother taught her well to wait for the ten-year mark [before divorcing

Is it a good idea to set up a business with your boyfriend?

I can set up a business with my husband, the father of my children, if anything goes wrong between us, the business still belongs to the the children. But a boyfriend? A boyfriend? No sir, not going to happen!

In March 2009, Bunmi Olaye set up a luxury fashion and art label with the love of her life, Francis Udom. They called it Bunmi Koko. For two and a half years the label won several awards, featured in several fashion shows around the world, had their clothes worn by important dignitaries, includingObama. They seemed unstoppable.

But on December 6th 2011, the Bunmi Koko label announced that co-founder, Bunmi Olaye was stepping down from the label, which already has operational business subsidiaries in the UK, SA and South America.

I hear the hardworking fashionista is planning to start her own independent label...thing is, after all the work she put in for almost three years to make Bunmi Koko a household name, she now has to start all over again.

Friday, December 23, 2011 26yr old Nigerian, Olutosin Oduwole, Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison in the US for Terrorist Threat

A 26yr old Nigerian, Olutosin Oduwole, was on Wednesday December 21, sentenced to five years in prison in Madison County, for writing what prosecutors say was a note demanding money and threatening a Virginia Tech-like killing spree.

A jury convicted the former Southern Illinois University student in October of attempting to make a terrorist threat and unauthorized possession or storage of a weapon.

The judge sided with jurors in dismissing Oduwole's claim that he was an aspiring rapper, and that the threatening words were innocent lyrical musings. He was sentenced to five years on the threat charge and a year on the weapons charge to be served concurrently.
The threat note was found in Tosin's abandoned car by cops in July 2007, just a few months after the Virginia Tech massacre. The writing demanded payment to a PayPal account, threatening "if this account doesn't reach $50,000 in the next 7 days then a murderous rampage similar to the VT shooting will occur at another highly populated university. THIS IS NOT A JOKE!

The aspiring rapper insisted in court that he "did not mean to incite fear. That was never my intention. That is not my character." But he failed to convince the court the writing was innocent lyrics and other musings. Also, unfortunately for him, when they searched his on-campus dorm when he was arrested, cops found a loaded gun.

EVERY WOMAN

Exactly 30 years ago, Mrs. Victoria Ekhomu, a security expert, made a vow to love and to cherish her husband, Ona Ekhomu. And for all those years she was able to strike balance between her home and as well reach the peak of her career. Today, she is the Managing Director of Trans-World Security. She was appointed the Senior Regional Vice-President (Africa) of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS International) – the world’s largest professional security body with over 37,000 members worldwide.

Having weathered the storm, Vicky took us down memory lane on how it has been and secret of their ever blossoming love.
How has it been all these years?
It has been good. I have been blessed with five wonderful children and a grandson. In a marriage, there are always ups and downs, and I thank God that we have weathered the storm and still stand strong. Marriage is not a bed of roses.

Can you recall how you met?

We met in Benin. I got a job with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) where I did my Youth Service Corp as a sub-editor. They gave me a permanent appointment to work in their Lagos office. I was supposed to start but took a week off to attend my cousin’s graduation ceremony in Benin. I never came back. At the graduation, I stayed with my relations and during the reception, they all ganged up demanding to know who and when I was getting married. When I said no one was on the line, they insisted that I should relocate to Benin for fear that I could meet a Yoruba man. They wanted me to stay in Benin so that I don’t get lost in Lagos. They prevailed on my mum that I should stay back in Edo. Although I was against it, I stayed back as an obedient child. I was convinced to live with my uncle who was living opposite my husband’s family house. His sister, who is a family friend, took my picture to him and told him that I was the girl he saw across the road.
Was the attraction because he was recommended?
I did not know all the intrigues that were going on behind my back. He called the house and requested that the phone be given to me. When I picked the phone, he just said that I should come over. I said, ‘who the hell are you to just ask me to come to your house.’ I was very angry and banged the phone. They now said that it is mama’s son that came back from America. When he saw me again, he said that he was doing his PhD thesis on Youth Corp service and that he learnt that I had just finished my youth service and that I should help him fill the questionnaire. That was how we got talking. We became friends and graduated to lovers.
How did you manage to weather the storms all these years?
As I said, we were friends before lovers and I had made up my mind to care for him. In marriage there has to be mutual love and determination by both parties to make it work. There will be different issues that would come up and they would be resolved because both of us were determined to make it work. We were frank to each other. I remember that at the time we were courting, my uncle said that he did not do any PhD but was a sports man but since I already knew him and believed in him, I just laughed it off.

What are those features that endeared him to you?

He is principled and that is one thing that I love that stood him out. He doesn’t smoke or drink alcohol. They might be little but I saw them as fire pack. He never fell for peer pressure. That encouraged me to know that if he says ‘I do’ at the altar, he will take the vow seriously. I wanted a man that would give me support and everything not the other way round and God granted me that wish because I could be difficult sometimes.
Was he domesticated?
My husband is a great cook but I only enjoy his meals whenever we are in America. Reason being that in Nigeria, our so-called values do not encourage a man to cook for his wife but the truth remains that I feel so loved when my husband surprises me with breakfast in bed. It could be romantic. He is a loving husband. I always prayed for someone I will love with my whole heart that would love me back sincerely. If love is one-sided, it can be a struggle. I prayed that God should give me my own husband and I think God did that for me. Since we care for each other, we are able to tackle whatever problem that comes our way.
Your husband is the dream of every woman, how do you cope with advances from other women?
I have taken it like a bird. Allow it to fly, if it is yours, it will come back. You cannot cage a man. I also believe that a woman should also be allowed to move out. When you love each other despite the advances that come both ways, you respect the feelings of each other.
What is that little secret that kept you and hubby going all these years?
One of the things that we have done is working together. We supported each other; we are not out there by ourselves like most career women. Because of the demands of the job, most women don’t get to be available and in the process, they drift apart. It can be challenging especially in Lagos. We tried to imbibe those little things that make marriage exciting. It was my mum that told me that no matter how busy, you must always find time to cook your food. I tried to imbibe that by making the soup and stew every weekend. Above all I sleep in the same room with my husband and that has helped us to settle whatever differences that crop up. Communication is our greatest weapon.

Even if he snores…….
Even if he snores that is part of what you married.
Why is the divorce rate so alarming?
At times there are irreconcilable differences, interference from in-laws. There is a lot of pressure especially these days that couples both work. They hardly get to see each other and they start drifting apart. Those days most women are not enlightened and do not know their rights and are made to believe that it is a taboo to walk out of your marriage. Today, women do not care. If love does not exist between them, any little thing will cause havoc.
Could it be because parents and relatives no longer assist in finding a partner for their children?
If you love each other and you are determined to make it work, and then it will work. One day, the parents that recommended your spouse would die and you bear your burden. Societal values have changed; it’s not like before when if you are married, you do not want to be a single mother. Home Videos have destroyed a lot of homes as people practise what they see. These days, women are bread-winners and the man would refuse to swallow his ego and cause problem. Childlessness is another issue, the couple may decide to work it out but pressure from family and friends would come into it.

Why did you take interest in security?

Initially I was a teacher before we got married and travelled to US. Over there in US, I did my master’s degree in security which was easy since my husband was into security. Meanwhile, my husband has a company called, Trans-World Security Consultancy and he was travelling across the globe. I was taking care of things whenever he travelled and gradually I took an interest in security and so far it has been good.
Is security really a man’s world?
It is no longer a man’s world as women have started coming into the business. Initially it was, and those days it was to my advantage. When I call manufacturers, they can easily remember my name because there are few women. Security is more of intelligence not brute force but having the knowledge to provide security. That is why I have got to the highest level of attaining my certification in the world. I am on top of my game.

JTF soldier, 24 others paraded for kidnaping

IT was a show of shame yesterday when a soldier attached to the Joint Task Force, JTF, in the Niger Delta, was among twenty four others paraded by the Rivers state Police Command over alleged involvement in kidnapping and other related crimes.
According to the state Police boss, the soldier and his five member gang had made attempts to abduct a business man in the state before their arrest.

No more ear-rings for Eagles -Keshi orders

Decency in dressing is the order of the day, here in the camp of the Super Eagles, as Steve Keshi and his assistants started the rebuilding process of the national team on Monday.
As a rule, Keshi has told the players that no player should wear ear-rings in camp or play fanciful ‘Nyanga’ football. “If we were Indians I will understand, because it’s part of their culture but ear-rings wearing by men is alien to Nigeria and no player is permitted here to wear.
He told the players that anyone who plays to the gallery, will be sent away from camp by the end of this week or early next week, because the national camp is no breeding ground for players who want to show off.
“We’re in for serious business, because we want to return our country to the top and any player not ready would be shown the exit door”, the Eagles boss reiterated

why My coach put me on my toes

West Brom striker, Osaze Peter Odemwingie has acknowledged that it was his coach’s criticism that helped him back to his feet.
While Osaze was out injured and West Brom was struggling, coach Roy Hodgson had challenged him to proved that his 15 goals haul last season was not a fluke.
Osaze gave an indication that his season was about to begin last weekend when he fired home the winner against Yakubu’s Blackburn, he was named man of the match.
The Eagles attacker who has been struggling with his form all season declared that he was back and will continue to work harder.
normal.“He put out his frustrations about my absence but I took the positives out of it and was hoping to get over the injuries and be back.
“You have so many supporters and opinions so it was a tough period.
“The manager said himself this week that what makes you a man, a footballer at this level, is when you can block these things out.
“It was a very good comment from him because in this sport there are a lot of opinions.
“I just blocked it but it wasn’t easy. Sometimes critics are justified and not justified but if you give up then it means you are not strong.
“The most important thing for me now is that it’s behind me and I’ll keep working hard. I’m only looking forward now

The National working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA ) on Thursday in Abuja announced a 14-man committee for the burial of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegu-Ojukwu.

A statement, signed by Chief Ifeanacho Oguejofor, the party's National Director of Publicity, stated that the committee would liaise with the family and the national burial committee to give Odumegwu-Ojukwu a befitting burial.
The statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) stated that the committee would hold its inaugural meeting on Jan. 3, 2012 in Enugu.

Other members are Mr Jolly Ngbor, Mrs Chinyere Okeke, Alhaji Ibrahim Garuba, Mr Tondo Joseph, Mr Ferguson Okpara, Mr Morgan Onyalechi and chairmen of the party from Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States.

Mikel faces more Chelsea frustration

Chelsea are eager to sign Everton midfielder, Jack Rodwell to fortify their midfield department. And this could mean more competition for John Obi Mikel who earlier in the week voiced his frustration over his lack of playing time.
Also couple with the fact that Ghana’s Michael Essien is expect to make recovery from his injury next season, Mikel might as well look for another club or at best raise his game to keep up with competition for shirts in the Andre Villas-Boa
Chelsea are facing competition from Tottenham and Manchester City whom are also interested in the player in the highly-rated 20-year-old, whose performances have led to a call-up to Fabio Capello’s England side.
Villas-Boas, who is keen to continue refreshing his aging squad in the January transfer window and is said to be impressed with Rodwell’s ability to play adeptly in midfield or central defence.
Everton coach David Moyes will be reluctant to let Rodwell leave considering the Toffees have one of the smallest squads in the Premier League, but the club’s money problems are well documented, and with the player under contract until 2015, the Merseyside outfit could secure a fee of around £20million.

Efe Ese, fake Nigerian“Pastor” in Ghana, claims to exorcise demons by sexual intercourse

I don’t know whether to call this gullibility, stupidity, desperation or just plain madness on the part of the women who actually believe this tripe!

A self proclaimed prophet Efe Ese, plying his trade in Ghana and claiming that the only way he exorcises evil spirits is through sexual intercourse with his (female) victims, has been arrested after stealing from one of such victims.

Before being apprehended, his modus operandi was to hypnotise women into believing they were tormented by evil spirits and that the best way of getting rid of these spirits was to have sex with them. Efe however took his depravity one step further when he stole a digital camera and laptop from one of his victims after assuring her that those items which had been sent to her by a relative abroad, were the source of her problems as they harbored evil spirits which were affecting her.

He told her he needed to pray over them in order to exorcise the demons within. They had actually begun praying (right after having sex) when she realised that the “prophet” had left the apartment. A week later “prophet” Efe called the woman on her phone, telling her he had been working vigorously on exorcising the evil spirits from the two items but the spirits were so recalcitrant so he would need another bout of sex to speed up the process.

The victim, who had then become aware of the suspect’s intentions, informed the police who laid an ambush for him and subsequently arrested him when the randy prophet arrived for his promised bout of demon exorcising sex. Following his admission of taking the items, a search by the police through the camera showed nude photographs of several women suspected to be more of his victims. He is yet to be charged

Akele charges Lagos govt on tolling, LASU fee hike

LAGOS – A human rights group, Human Rights Defenders Network HURIDEN, has charged Lagos State Government to suspend tolling  on Lekki- Epe Expressway  and conduct a plebiscite to determine whether Lagosians want it or not.
The group also called on Governor Babatunde Fashola to, as a matter of urgency,  reverse the “too exorbitant” and oppressive Lagos State University, LASU, fees in the public interest.
Chairman of HURIDEN, Mr. Ayodele Akele, who spoke at a briefing at the Secretariat of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Lagos chapter, Ikeja, added that it was more honourable for the government to listen to the people, who voted for him if he claimed to be a democrat.
He said: “We want immediate suspension of the tolls until a plebiscite is conducted by  an independent body as to whether Lagos residents want it or not. If Lagos residents say no to tolling, how can you insist on such?
”The only wise option is to subject such policy to a plebiscite. Was there ever a public hearing on the desirability or otherwise of the policy? This is a battle Fashola and his godfather cannot win. in the final analysis.”
Akele said that it was still more honourable now for Fashola to bow to the wishes and the voice of the people, which is the voice of God before his government was isolated by the same people, who purportedly voted them into office.
He said: “If the 500 per cent increase in LASU fees is not enough insult on Lagosians, Governor Fashola also again dared Lagosians by imposing toll payment on Admiralty Way, Lekki corridor, the only link road/ access to several residential accommodations opened up and constructed by Alhaji Lateef Jakande administration

Okadaman charged for defiling daughters

IKEJA – A 51-year-old Okada rider, Collins Oleka, has been charged before the Family Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, for allegedly harassing, sexually assaulting and having carnal knowledge of his daughters, aged 15 and 18 years old respectively.
According to the eldest of the girls: “He has been sleeping with me since I was 12  years old and when I reported him to my mother, she warned me not to tell anybody because it will bring shame to our family.
”Now, I am 18 and I can’t continue to bear it, so I told my friend, who informed a non-governmental organisation about it. He also sleeps with my younger sister.”
The alleged offence, which was reported to the police by a Lagos-based NGO, was said to have been committed on September 17, 2011, and contrary to and punishable under sections 262 and 259 laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
However, the girls’ father (Collins), a native of Mbano, Imo State, denied the charge and pleaded not guilty, when he was asked to enter his plea.
Magistrate  Oshoniyi admitted him to bail in the sum of N200,000 and a surety, whose address must be verified.
Collins was later ordered to be remanded in Kirikiri Prison, when nobody indicated interest in standing as surety for him, while the matter was adjourned till February 13.
Meantime, in another development, a 37-year-old pastor, Joseph Olukaiyeja, has been charged before an Ejigbo Magistrate‘s Court, Lagos, for allegedly obtaining N1.6 million from two brothers, Akintunde Akinloye and Akindele Akinloye, under false pretence

High sea drama: Eddie Ugboma, Omotola stranded on Atlantic Ocean

An high sea disaster was avoided during the week when legendary producer Eddie Ugboma and star actress, Ominous Jalade-Ekeinde were left stranded on the Atlantic ocean.
The duo who were on the movie set of Teco Benson were left stranded and floating for more than three hours in the speed boat conveying the cast and crew from the Atlas Cove where they’d gone for shooting.
It was indeed a twist of fate because, we’d actually gone to shoot some scenes for the movie ‘Blood On The River’ and there we were stranded on the Atlantic ocean”, disclosed Eddied Ugboma.
Narrating the genesis of the problem, the Delta State producer who stars as Omotola’s father in the new movie flick, said “the boat man didn’t realise he hadn’t enough diesel in the boat until we were mid-way on the Atlantic.
Suddenly the engine stopped right in the middle of the sea and we were left stranded.
As the boat man made frantic effort to reach his colleagues, our boat stayed adrift for three hours”.
Continuing, Eddie said “as we prayed for God’s intervention, the boat drifted towards the water front of the America Embassy.
And that was when we sensed trouble. The security men threatened us with guns because they thought we were pirates. My brother, it was God’s intervention that saved us from being shot at.”
Finally he added, “the boatman’s colleague then brought in diesel and we were able to conclude our journey

Actress Nadia Buari ‘Snatches’ Beauty Queen’s Husband

As you read this, sources say Nadia Buari has become a live-in lover of Delta State big boy politician, Joseph Tomowu. The problem however is that the man is married to the first ever Miss Delta Soap, Nora Anusionwu, with three kids. According to sources,…
Nora lives in London with the kids.
Very close persons to the couple say the illicit affair between Nadia and Joseph came to the open when Nora informed her husband that she was coming home for Christmas with the kids — something they normally do every year.

Boko Haram Confirms Members Killed in Maiduguri Blast

Nigeria's terrorist outfit Boko Haram on Sunday confirmed that three of its members were killed by their own bombs in the previous day in the northeastern city Maiduguri. Spokesperson for the group Abul Qaqa made the confirmation in a telephone conference with newsmen in Maiduguri on Sunday. "We have hundreds of members that are willing to sacrifice their lives in this crusade; the unfortunate incident of Saturday will not discourage
us; if anything, it will encourage us to strategize and diversify our techniques because we are not afraid of death," Qaqa said.

Nigerian troops told newsmen on Saturday that three suspected members of the group died in an early morning explosion at Shuwari in Maiduguri.

Spokesperson for the Joint Task Force (JTF) on Operation Restore Order Lt. Col. Hassan Ifijeh told newsmen that large quantities of unused Improvised Explosive Devices, AK 47 rifles, ammunition and other vital items were recovered from the scene of the blast.

He said three unidentified mutilated bodies of suspected Boko Haram militants suspected to be running the illegal bomb making factory were also found.

The Boko Haram spokesman said hundreds of their members were killed in 2009, but they remain resolute.

He claimed that his men had repelled alleged attempts by security agencies to arrest some members of the group after cordoning off a house at Karkasara area of Kano.

He also claimed that the group set its men free by killing the security operatives.

Meanwhile, Mallam Abubakar Shekau, the spiritual head of the group, threatened on Sunday to unleash mayhem on Kano unless urgent steps were taken by the authorities to stop the arrest of the group's members.

Shekau said in an e-mail statement to journalists in Maiduguri that the group would launch endless attacks on Kano following arbitrary arrest and persecution of its members.

He claimed that the group had sent open letters to some prominent people including the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, Gov. Rabiu Kwankwaso, Aminu Alhassan Dantata and Khalifa and Sheikh Isiaka Rabiu.

Shekau said the group had warned on the increasing arrest of its members but the situation had continued in spite of the complaints.

Man, 70 arrested for defiling girl, 8

A 70-year-old man, simply identified as Baba Sunday has been arrested by the police for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl in Lagos. The old man, who is currently facing interrogation at the Ilaje Police Station, was said to have taken the girl to a popular hotel (name withheld) in Bariga where he defiled the girl.
The suspect was said to have booked the hotel room for N10,000 before luring the girl to the place.

The hotel managers did not suspect foul play when they initially saw the little girl going inside the room with the man, who is old enough to be her great grand parent. The receptionist in the hotel was said to have become worried when she checked the time and later discovered that the time was far spent and there was no mature girl that came with the man.

A staffer of the hotel decided to eaves-drop and allegedly heard the little girl pleading with the old man to let her go as her aunty would be waiting for her.
The hotel manager was said to have contacted the Police, who stormed the place and compelled the man to open the door. The policemen were said to have been shocked when they met the girl, who told them she was eight years old.
A police source at Ilaje Police Station told Daily Sun that the little girl confessed that the old man had been having carnal knowledge of her for a long time .

The police officer said the girl told them the old man had taken her twice to a primary school where he slept with her.
The source said on the day the old man was arrested, he had lied to the girl that he was going to buy some provision, which he wanted the girl to deliver to his family as they live on the same area. The policeman said the girl followed the suspect to the hotel room where he allegedly defiled her.

He said the girl had been taken to the general hospital where doctors conducted some medical test on her and that the police were still waiting for the medical report before proper action would be taken on the man. The little girl’s aunty, who simply identified herself as Ifeoma wants the police to bring the old man to justice. “The girl in question is my late elder sister’s child. The girl is too young and fragile to face the kind of psychological trauma she has been subjected by Baba Sunday.”

She said the only thing that would appease the family is when Baba Sunday would be made to face the law.
When contacted for comment, the state Police spokesperson, Mr Samuel Jinadu said he had not been briefed on the matter by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the station.

kidnappers ‘detained’ 80 yr-old-man for 8 days

Pa Asarewon and one of his kinsmen, identified as Roland, were kidnapped between Okada Junction and Ogbemudia Farms, along the Benin-Ore Expressway, otherwise known as ‘Aso Rock’ because of the nature of crimes that are being perpetrated in the area.
“I have every cause to be happy and thankful to God for saving my life,” the victim began, in the midst of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and elated relatives, among others.

The octogenarian, who gave toothy smiles occasionally as he narrated his ordeal to the reporter continued: “So, I’m the one in my house, I’m being surrounded by members of my family? Some days ago, I was in a thick forest, sleeping on the ground and surrounded by some gun-trotting, unfriendly fellows, who wanted me dead if I failed to do their biddings.”

“I could not imagine my family, not seeing my corpse at the age of 80. Once more, I thank God.”
It was gathered that on the day of the incident, Pa Asarewon and Rolland left Warri at about 8.00 am , hoping to get to Lagos by 2.00 pm. Unfortunately, the journey they thought would take them at least, six hours lasted for eight days and in fear, pains and anguish.

It was learnt that the journey, through Warri to Benin axis was smooth. But their ordeal began immediately after the Okada Junction, just before the gate of Ogbemudia Farms. Rolland, who owns the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) in which they were traveling, had stopped over to purchase some plantain. As soon as he stopped, a vehicle allegedly pulled by their side while one of the occupants brandished a gun and ordered them to ‘co-operate.’

The four occupants of the car were said to have been armed with A.K. 47 riffles. One of them took over the driver’s seat while the others sandwiched Pa Asawaron and Rolland on the owner’s seat. And that was how they were taken to an unknown destination where they were held hostage for eight days .
“As soon as their driver took over the steering, he veered off the expressway and drove into the thick forest until we got to a point, where the road became impassable for vehicles. We alighted from the vehicle and trekked another long distance in the forest.

At that time, they had set the driver of our vehicle free. When I became tired, I sat down and refused to move further. It was then that one of them carried me on his back like a baby. We crossed two rivers, using a locally made boat, before we finally got to our destination. The kidnappers were six men and two women. Four men carried out the arrest while we met two others on the way. Besides, we saw two women and suspected them to be the ones, who prepared food for them.

It is a big business. When people called them on phone, they usually told the callers that they had business in the camp. The journey was tedious, stressful and fearful. At about 4.00 a.m., we were walking in the middle of a strange, wild forest,” Asawaron lamented, as he recalled the incident, which almost caused him heart attack. Hear him again: “As we were coming, we threw away our handsets, suspecting that they might use them to contact our families, to demand ransom.”

“As expected, the leader of the gang asked for our handsets, when we got to their camp and we told him we did not have any. He became furious and started torturing us, using cane and gun butts. He threatened to kill us and give our bodies to wild animals if we continued to make things difficult for them.
“That was when I began to think that the end had come. The only thing that saved us was when the kidnappers remembered that they still had our driver’s handset on them. It was from the driver’s handset that they got in contact with Rolland’s relatives.”

The victim described his experience in the kidnappers’ den as a bitter one, saying he never wished his enemy to experience such horrible thing.“At the age of 80, I do not have the strength to withstand the rough shuffling, pushing and threats of death from the criminals. I thought I would not see today. I was kept in a thick forest, in the rain or sun shine, for eight days. Mosquitoes and all kinds of insects feasted on us. Concerning feeding, the kidnappers used ‘bush meat’ to prepare a delicacy known as ‘pepper soup’ and served us dodo, prepared from plantain, rice, beans and other assorted foods. But the appetite was not there to eat all that they offered us. In some cases, they threatened to kill us, before we managed to eat little food. I would have died, if I had stayed longer than a day in the kidnappers’ den,” he confessed, with shouts of ‘praise the Lord!’ from his children, relatives and friends.

Help later came the way of Pa Asarewon when one of Rolland’s relatives was contacted on phone by the kidnappers and he agreed to pay N3 million ransom. He said: “Initially, the kidnappers were asking for N15 million ransom. They told me to get in touch with my children for them to withdraw some money from their bank accounts and bring to them. I told them I was a poor pensioner, who did not have money anywhere. They ignored me and later concentrated their efforts on Rolland, whom they discovered to be a very rich man.

They finally agreed to take the sum of N3 million, which was sent to them, through a driver of an identified vehicle. Ironically, the driver they sent to an agreed spot, to hand over the money to the kidnappers, was also abducted by the same gang. They began to ask for extra N3 million before we, including him, could regain our freedom. Look, my brother , I almost gave up the ghost. It was when the money was paid that we were set free.”

Youths protest alleged killing of pastor’s wife

Youths in Igede-Ekiti Tuesday took to streets protesting the mysterious  killing of the wife of a pastor, Mrs. Taiwo Oluwole.
Taiwo, who was in her 40s and wife of the Pastor in- charge of the Zion Baptist Church in Age Quarters in the Community,  was suspected to have been either raped  to death or killed by some  ritualists on Saturday while on  a visit to Ule Ona  farm, in the suburb of Aramoko-Ekiti, a neighbouring community.
The action of the youths led the monarch of the town, the Onigede of Igede, Oba Joseph Aladesuru and his chiefs,  to abandon their meeting which had been on when the restive youths stormed the palace.
The youths, however, threatened to burn the palace if the monarch refused to have an audience with them, even as they defied the advise of the law enforcement  agents  who had warned the students not to move near the palace.
Vanguard gathered that the deceased‘s husband had  raised an alarm on Saturday’s evening that his wife, who accompanied  him to Ule Ona Farm in the morning, though for different missions, could not return after several hours he had returned home from the same farm.
Police and other law enforcement agents had a hectic day in controlling the mob, as they struggled to ensure that the palace’s entrance door was closed to prevent the irate youths from gaining entry into the palace where the monarch and his  chiefs were holding a meeting before the youths stormed the palace

Ojukwu: MASSOB tours Anambra villages

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) yesterday began tour of all the communities in the Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State as part of preparation for the burial of the former Biafran warlord, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

Addressing the people of Nzam at the headquarters of Anambra West Council Area, the Regional Administrator of the Region, Donatus Nweke said the tour was to familiarize with the people in the rural areas.

According to Nweke, MASSOB, as part of its obligation to maintain peaceful and non violent struggle for the actualization of Biafran state, had decided to move into the rural communities to sensitize them on the activities of the movement.

He, however, stated that MASSOB was born out of Nigeria ’s hostility to Ndigbo, adding that they would maintain the non violent approach as panacea for the liberation of the people of Igbo nation.
“Chief Ralph Uwazurike’s choice of non violent approach has made it possible for old, young and even handicapped to be strong members of MASSOB today and we assure you that nonviolent approach remains the most civilized way of achieving freedom,” he said.

Responding on behalf of the traditional Ruler of Nzam, Igwe Okolo, Johnson Okolo admonished members of the movement to remain focused and never allow themselves to be used by politicians.
Igwe Okolo, however, expressed sadness over the death of the former Biafran warlord, Odumegwu Ojukwu, whom he described as a detribalized Nigerian, whose commitment for better Nigeria was total.
The youth President of Oroma Etiti, Mr. Ignatius Igboanugo, on behalf of the youths of the community thanked MASSOB for the tour, assuring that it would afford them the opportunities to seek for clarification on the operations of the movement.

Callous dad •Burns daughter’s breasts, private part for making phone call to boyfriend

A man, John (surname witheld), in a community in Abia State, has been banished for life for allegedly using hot iron on the breast and private part of his 16-year-old daughter after she was caught answering phone call from her boy friend.

The same hot iron, suspected to be a kitchen knife was also used to shave the hair of the victim, who was locked up by the father in his compound.
It was from the cell that she was said to have contacted one of her close friends, who took picture of her nude position and alerted members of the community, a source told Daily Sun in Umuahia.

The victim,(name withheld) had her breasts and private part allegedly burnt by her father, who suspected she was having an affair with a boy.
For that reason, the people of Umuyota in Umawa Alocha Autonomous Community, Umuahia North Local Government Area, passed a sentence of banishment on him , burnt down his house and drove him awayfrom the community.

But the suspect denied all the allegations, stating that what happened to him “is the handiwork of my enemies.”
The community alleged through their traditional ruler, Eze Nnadimele Nwakanma that the suspect had been a torn in the flesh of the community and refused to obey the norms of the society.
At the Umuawa market square, where the judgment was passed, the youths agreed in unison, that he should no longer be seen in the community.

They called on the state government to help them drive away the suspect, whom they described as a pain in their neck.
Nwakanma described the incident as evil against womanhood .
He said angry women and youths took to the streets and burnt down the man’s house and his car after which he was  banished from the community.

Abuse of women outrages Egyptians

Thousands of angry Egyptian women joined a fifth day of protests in Cairo to voice outrage over what they said was the military's abuse and mistreatment of female demonstrators. ''Egyptian girls are a red line,'' they chanted during a peaceful march from Tahrir Square through the centre of the Egyptian capital on Tuesday, while male protesters formed a protective line around them. ''Down with the military rule!''
Some carried posters and pictures of women they said were beaten, stripped and assaulted in recent days, including one woman who was captured on video as military police stripped some of her clothing to expose her bra, and then appeared to stamp on her.
The footage has been circulated, fueling a growing public anger toward the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which has been ruling the country since the overthrow in February of the president Hosni Mubarak.
''That girl who was stripped by army officers didn't just reveal her body, but she revealed the brutality and atrocities carried out by the army,'' one female protester, who did not want to be identified, said.
''We don't trust them any more. They should cede power immediately.''
Sensing the public frustration, the military council quickly issued an apology and vowed to punish those who mistreated women. The statement expressed ''deep regret to the great women of Egypt'' and reaffirmed their right to protest and take part in the democratic transition.
The military's expression of regret was a stark reversal to recent denials that soldiers had used excessive force against demonstrators.
On Monday, General Adel Emara, a member of the military council, blamed the violence on protesters, whom the army has tried to paint as criminals.
At least 13 protesters have died in clashes since Friday and 800 people have been injured, some from gunfire

Twins born with one body and two heads

Hospital officials in northern Brazil say a woman has given birth to conjoined twin boys with one body and two heads.
Obstetrician Neila Dahas of the Santa Casa de Misericodia Hospital in the city of Belem says the twins were born on Monday by caesarean section.
She says on the hospital's website that each boy has his own brain and spinal cord, but they share all other organs, including the heart, lungs and liver

Dr Dahas says it is too early to tell how the twins will develop.
She says one of the boys is having respiratory problems and requires "special care".
The boys are named Jesus and Emanuel.
The 9.9-pound "twins" were born in a small hospital in the northern state of Para and were rushed by plane to a better equipped hospital in the state capital Belem.
Dr Dahas said separating the heads would be impossible because there was only one set of organs.
"What we know statistically is that the children who undergo surgery and survive are the children who have less organs in common," she said.
She added that it was difficult to choose which head to remove because both brains were functioning well.

Robbers on rampage in Kogi •Kill 10, attack three banks

Police in Kogi State appear helpless as armed robbers had literally taken over the state, creating fears among law-abiding citizens even as 10 people were shot dead yesterday during an operation in three banks in Okene stealing millions of Naira.

Only on Monday the robbers bombed a police station in Aiyetoro Gbede and a first generation bank carting away arms and ammunition from the police station with no arrest so far made.

Yesterday’s incident, according to an eye-witness, happened around 3. p.m when the robbers numbering about 20, invaded the town with about six exotic cars wielding dangerous weapons including AK 47 and guitar boy riffle shooting sporadically to scare away residents and passers-by.
The robbers were said to have operated unchallenged in three banks carting away unspecified sum running into millions of naira.

According to the source the robbers came with exotic cars ranging from Toyota JP, Mecedez and Honda Accord.
The operation which was said to have lasted for more than one hours jolted the police and other security agencies as everybody in the town took cover including the policemen who were said to have deserted their stations

The account said the town was turned into a theatre of war as the sound of gunshots almost deafened the ears..
Travellers coming from the south and heading to the northern part of the country, according to the account, had to make ‘U’ -turn to avoid the robbers, some of who were said to have positioned themselves on the highway to forestall any hitch.

Market women and traders around the areas had to close shops, while other commercial banks and police stations were also hurriedly closed down as a result of the rampaging robbers .
Many people were said have sustained injuries while the bodies of those killed especially bank customers and staff were said to have littered the area.

fans protest Eto'o's ban

Local football fans in Cameroon have taken to the streets to protest the ban on national team captain, Samuel Eto'o.

Irate fans moved from Mutengene to Tiko (20kms distance) two towns in the Southwest Region of Cameroon.
They marched in the streets demanding that the fifteen-match ban on the four-time African Player of the Year be reversed.
Meantime, fans in the capital city Yaoundé and Douala may be spoiling for protest if nothing is done to lift the sanction.
Much anger has been shown in the Eto'o sanction considering that football is the one thing Cameroonians are passionate about. Locals also hold Eto'o very dear and follow him in his exploits from one club to another.
It is apparently against this background of anger and anticipated riots that newly sports and physical education minister, Adoum Garoua issued a press release on Tuesday morning calling for calm. He said government was studying the matter and a solution would be sought.
It is likely that the Minister will exploit the provision of the Fecafoot rules and regulations stipulating that the president of the federation or the sports minister can overturn any decision of the disciplinary committee.
Eto'o's communication outfit has prepared a live TV broadcast tonight where he is supposed to spill the beans.

Reps blame appointment of incompetent ministers on sports

The House of Representative Committee on Sports has attributed the problem of Nigerian sports on the inability of the Presidency to appoint a competent professional as the minister of sports, insisting that as long as incompetent persons continue to occupy the position, our sports would continue to be in the doldrums.

A member of the Committee from Kano, Hon. Engr. Muhammed AG Wudil, who made the assertion while fielding questions from Daily Sunsports at the National Assembly during the recent interaction with sports stakeholders, lamented that President Goodluck Jonathan, who is an apostle of continuity, had failed to appoint professionals to handle the Sports Ministry.

Enumerating the factors that contributed to the problems Nigerian sports, especially football is facing currently, the honourable member said: “We have to look into the inconsistency in the appointment of sports ministers in the country.
“It’s too bad that we change the sports minister almost every six months. A minister will come with new ideas, only for another person to come and change those ideas within months.

“It’s disturbing that a country like a relatively unknown football-playing country like Gabon should be ahead of us in football development. The constant change of ministers has made it impossible for us to institutionalise continuity in the system.

“President Goodluck Jonathan is an apostle of continuity, yet we keep changing sports ministers quite often. Sports is a key issue in our national life that we really need a thorough professional to it. You cannot be a minister of justice without being a lawyer.
