Eleven suspected drug dealers have been charged to court by the Bauchi State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDELA, in a bid to rid the state of illicit drugs.
State Commandant of NDLEA, Mr. Sule Momodu, who made this known yesterday, while briefing newsmen in his office said that 7.260 kilogrammes of Indian hemp and psychotropic substances were seized from the 11 suspected drug barons.
Momodu said that those charged to the Federal High Court Bauchi included a 60-year old man, Ya’u Yusuf. He said Yusuf was allegedly arrested in Kafin Madaki with 450grammes of cannabis; Ismail Sani, 20, was arrested in Muda Lawal market with four kilogrammes of cannabis and Mohammed Sani, 35 years, was said to have been arrested in Kari with 200grammes of cannabis.
The NDLEA boss said, “The other alleged drug traffickers that were arrested are Abdulrahman Adamu, 20, with 300grammes of cannabis and 10 grammes of Psychotropic substances; Umaru Abubakar, 26, with 1.1 kilogrammes of cannabis; Abdulkadir Adamu, 22, with 500grammes of cannabis and Audu Idi Ikahanu, 35. ’’Ikahanu was also alleged to have been arrested at Muda Lawal Market with 200grammes of Cannabis”
According to Momodu, Musa Yakubu, was allegedly arrested in Wuntin Dada with 100grammes of the substance, just as Shamsudeen Aliyu, 24, was reportedly arrested in Dass with 50 grammes of psychotropic substances.
He added that Yusuf Garba Saji, 30, was also arrested in Itas Gadau with 200grammes of cannabis while Musa Bashir, 45, was allegedly arrested with 150 grammes of cannabis at Igbo Quarters. Mr. Sule Momodu said the suspects had been remanded in prison custody while hearing will continue on January 15, at the Federal High Court, Bauchi.
While calling on the people to help the agency in its fight against illicit drug abuse and trafficking, Momodu warned youths to stay away from drugs during the festive period, saying that the agency would not leave any stone unturned to ensure a drug-free Bauchi State
