THE National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Edo state, yesterday, took charge of expired drugs worth over N25m from representatives of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria in the state.
The expired drugs were handed over to NAFDAC by officers of the Communities Pharmacies Action Centre. According to COPA, the exercise was in line with its professional duties to submit for destruction expired drugs collated from pharmacies in the state.
During the handing over ceremony, chairman, Edo PSN, Tunde Akamu said COPA is charged with the responsibilities of ensuring that pharmacies in the state do not sell expired drugs to consumers.
NAFDAC’s head of unit in the state, Mr. David West disclosed that COPA was working in collaboration with the agency to fight against all forms of unethical dealings in the drugs dispensation and administration.
He said, “Its (COPA) activities are a self-auditing mechanism in making sure the ethics of the profession is maintained. “I call the organisation self-auditing because all the pharmacies in the state voluntarily handed over all expired drugs to COPA through their representatives, Oskarjay and VJ Essex Pharmacies
